Race?

Race is how people can classify themselves. It has to do with your culture, language, ways of life and so on. However not everyone is just one race. People tend to be more than one race now and days because we live in such a diverse society. Back then people did not believe in being with someone from a different race; although, this is very common for us because times have changed and there is not much racism (like before). I think race is a useful way to classify people as long as we can use more than one race to say who we are. Race works because it gives us a way to explain who we are in a short simple way. I do think the Census Bureau should allow us to check multiples races to define who we are because it would be a little hard to really say who we are by only checking one race. For example I would check Salvadorian, Mexican, Native American, and White because my family is very diverse. This is why I agree because I cannot say who I really am by only choosing one race because I am more than one race.

  1. I am the same way when it comes to identification. I identify as White and Mexican/Native American; however since I am light skinned, I am only seen by society as a white female. It is hard for me because I identify strongly with my Mexican heritage, but many do not think I am "Mexican enough" because I am light skinned with blue eyes, and I only speak a limited amount of Spanish.

  2. I agree with what you have to say. I agree, that relationships are more multicultural than they were before. Society has also learned to be more accepting of these relationships. I also, agree that it would be hard for some people to narrow down their race to one choice. Some people are more than one race. They should be allowed to mark the races they identify with. However, this is going to make it impossible to generalize people. For example, its going to be hard to say all Hispanic people like this or all African American people like that. It illustrates that perhaps we are becoming a multicultural society. Maybe race will be something that is obsolete in the future,
